Definition
打字 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to type' or 'to do typing work'. The verb 打 separates from the object 字 when you need to add a duration, measure word, or aspect marker: '打了半个小时的字' (typed for half an hour). Do not put quantifiers or time expressions after the full compound; instead, insert them between the two syllables.
