Definition
执政官 is a formal title with two main contexts: in ancient Rome it refers to a consul (one of two annually elected chief magistrates of the Roman Republic), and in modern military usage it can mean an executive officer (XO) or second-in-command of a unit. The term is also used generically for any presiding officer of a council or assembly. The key is that it always denotes a high-ranking official who holds executive or presiding power.
