执着 (zhízhuó) describes a person's persistent dedication to a goal, often in a positive light (focused, never giving up). When used with 于 (yú), it can shift to a negative sense of being overly attached or stubbornly clinging to something. 固执 (gùzhi) is purely negative, meaning 'stubborn, obstinate' in a rigid, unreasonable way.
