Definition
抵 (dǐ) has two main uses: (1) to press against or prop up something, often with one's body or an object — less general than 支 (zhī) 'support' and different from 撑 (chēng) 'prop open'; (2) to resist or withstand pressure, often in the pattern 抵得住/不住, while 抵抗 (dǐkàng) implies active fighting against and 抵挡 (dǐdǎng) means to hold back an attack or temptation.
