Definition
挫折 (cuò zhé) means to frustrate or discourage someone, often by setbacks or failures, affecting their confidence or progress. It differs from 打击 (dǎ jī), which can also mean 'to discourage' but has a stronger sense of striking physically or cracking down; and from 挫败 (cuò bài), which focuses on thwarting specific plans or efforts. 挫折 is more about the emotional or psychological effect of obstacles.
