Definition
换人 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to substitute a player' in sports, or more generally 'to replace someone' in a team or job. The verb 换 and the object 人 can split when a measure word, number, or other element comes between them — for example, 换了一个人 ('substituted one person') or 换过两次人 ('substituted twice'). You cannot put the object directly after 换人; instead, use the separated form when specifying quantity or frequency.
