Definition
握手 (wò shǒu) is a separable verb (离合词): the parts 握 (grasp) and 手 (hand) can be separated to show aspect or frequency, e.g. 握了手 'shook hands' or 握一次手 'shake hands once'. This structure is a common grammar pattern for two-character compound verbs at this level.
