文档 mostly refers to electronic files/documents, especially in computing (e.g., a Word file). It is narrower than 文件, which covers both digital and paper documents, and different from 档案 (archives/records) and 文献 (academic/literary texts). 文档 can also mean documentation as a collective set of documents.
