Definition
新 (xīn) is the basic, everyday word for 'new' — used for objects, places, and people that are recently made or acquired. It contrasts with 新鲜 (xīnxiān), which specifically means 'fresh' (food, air) or 'novel' (ideas); 新奇 (xīnqí) adds a sense of strangeness or exotic novelty. 新 is the simplest and most neutral of the three.
