Definition
无效 (wú xiào) describes something as currently invalid or ineffective — a static state. It differs from 失效 (shī xiào), which means something has become invalid (like a contract or medicine expiring). 无效 can also mean an effort is 'in vain,' but unlike 白 (bái, an adverb), it functions as a verb or adjective.
