曹操 (Cáo Cāo, c. 155–220 CE) was a major warlord, statesman, and poet of the late Eastern Han dynasty and the de facto founder of the Cao Wei kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period. He is a central figure in the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, where he is often depicted as a cunning and ambitious strategist. Knowing his name helps with discussions of Chinese history and classical literature.
