Definition
札 is a bound form (b.f.) that originally referred to a thin wooden strip used for writing in ancient China. Over time it came to mean 'letter' or 'correspondence', and appears only in formal or literary compounds like 信札 ('letter'), 手札 ('personal letter'), and 札记 ('reading notes'). It is not used as a standalone word in modern Chinese.
