Definition
来临 (láilín) is a formal, literary verb meaning “to arrive, to come (of an event, season, or significant time).” It is used for abstract happenings (新年来临, 考试来临), unlike 到/到达 which refer to people reaching a physical place, and unlike 临近 which stresses “approaching” rather than arrival.
