Definition
来自 (lái zì) is the everyday verb for 'to come from' a place, person, or source. It is more general than 出自 (chū zì, used for quotes or written origins), 来源 (lái yuán, often a noun meaning 'source'), 起源 (qǐ yuán, 'to originate from' something abstract), and 出身 (chū shēn, 'to come from a family background'). Use 来自 for simple statements like 'He comes from Beijing'.
