Definition
杰出 (jiéchū) means 'outstanding, distinguished' and is typically used for people or their accomplishments with a sense of excellence beyond the ordinary. It is stronger and more formal than 出色 (chūsè), which is used broadly for performance; and more common than 卓越 (zhuóyuè), which is even loftier. Unlike 突出 (tūchū), 杰出 is only an adjective and never means 'to protrude'.
