Definition
栅 (shān) is a bound morpheme (不成词语素) that appears in technical compounds, primarily meaning 'grid' or 'grating'. It is not used alone as a word. Do not confuse it with the other reading zhà, which means 'fence' in 栅栏 (zhàlan). The shān reading is found in electronics, optics, and computing terms.
