Definition
模范 (mó fàn) means 'model, fine example' and can act as both a noun and an adjective (e.g., 模范员工). It describes someone or something regarded as exemplary and worth emulating. Compared to 榜样 (bǎng yàng, 'role model') which is purely a noun, 模范 is often used to modify nouns; 典范 (diǎn fàn) and 楷模 (kǎi mó) are more formal or literary terms for an outstanding example.
