Definition
歇业 is a formal verb-object compound meaning 'to go out of business' or 'to close down (a business)'. It can refer to either temporary or permanent closure. As a separable verb (离合词), the verb 歇 and the object 业 can be split: you can insert aspect markers like 了 or 过, or a duration, between them — for example, 歇了业 ('closed down') or 歇了三个月业 ('closed for three months'). It is more formal than 关门 or 倒闭.
