Definition
正月 (Zhēng yuè) refers to the entire first month of the Chinese lunar calendar, from New Year's Day to the Lantern Festival. Unlike 元旦 (solar New Year's Day) or 新春 (the festive first 10–20 days), 正月 is the full lunar month. 年初 (nián chū) is vaguer—it can mean the beginning of either the solar or lunar year.
