Definition
正视 (zhèng shì) means 'to face squarely, to face up to' — it implies actively acknowledging and dealing with abstract issues like problems or shortcomings. Unlike 面对 (miàn duì, 'to face'), which is neutral and can be physical or metaphorical, 正视 carries a sense of correctness and resolution. 直视 (zhí shì) is more literal, meaning 'to stare at' an object directly.
