Definition
母体 is a formal term that merges several English concepts into one Chinese word. In biology, it refers to the maternal body or parent organism (as opposed to the fetus or offspring), and in technical fields like materials science or mathematics, it can mean a matrix or host structure. It is not used colloquially for 'mother's body' (that would be 妈妈的身体).
