比喻 (bǐ yù) is the general word for 'metaphor' or 'analogy' as a figure of speech, used as both a noun and verb. It is more formal and literary than 比方 (bǐ fang), which is used colloquially to introduce an example or analogy. 好比 (hǎo bǐ) is a verb meaning 'to be like' and directly compares two things.
