Definition
渡 (dù) is the verb for crossing a body of water (river, sea) by ferry or boat; it also figuratively means 'to get through' a difficult period. Compared to 横 (héng), which simply means 'to go across' horizontally (a road, river) without the water-transport sense, and 穿越 (chuānyuè), which emphasizes traversing through space (desert, forest) or time travel, 渡 carries a strong association with water-crossing and endurance.
