焦虑 (jiāolǜ) describes a lasting anxious state, like 'anxiety' — a deep worry about what might happen. It's more prolonged than 着急 (zháojí) ('impatient / worried about a pressing issue') and broader than 紧张 (jǐnzhāng) ('nervous in a specific situation'). Of these, 焦虑 is the most common word for general anxiety.
