熏陶 (xūn táo) means to be gradually influenced and nurtured by a positive cultural or artistic environment, like growing up surrounded by music. It differs from 熏 (xūn), which literally means 'to smoke' and figuratively 'to influence' without the positive cultural connotation; and from 陶冶 (táo yě), which implies active self-cultivation of character or taste, often through art or nature.
