Definition
燃起 is a resultative verb compound (动结式) formed by 燃 'to burn' and 起 'up/start'. It means 'to ignite, to start burning' literally, and is also used figuratively for emotions, interests, or conflicts that flare up. Unlike separable verbs, 燃起 is usually used as a whole, but you can insert 得/不 for possibility: 燃得起 (can ignite) / 燃不起 (cannot ignite).
