Definition
燥 (zào) describes an uncomfortable, parched dryness, typically of weather, air, or skin. It differs from the more general 干 (gān) in that 燥 often implies heat or irritation is part of the feeling — you'll hear it in 干燥 ('arid, dry') and 燥热 ('hot and dry').
