Definition
画画 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to draw or paint'. The first 画 is the verb and the second 画 is the object. You can insert measure words, complements, or time expressions between them, e.g., 画了一幅画 (drew a picture), 画完画 (finish drawing). You cannot put the object directly after 画画; instead, use 画 + object + 画 pattern when specifying what you draw.
