Definition
疏远 means 'distant, estranged' and always describes a relationship that has cooled or weakened — it is about emotional or social distance, not physical space. Unlike 远离 (to physically stay away from) or 远 (far in distance), 疏远 is used for people growing apart or becoming less close. It can be an adjective (关系很疏远) or a verb (疏远了朋友).
