Definition
皮质 is a medical/anatomical term meaning 'cortex' — the outer layer of an organ, especially the brain (大脑皮质) or kidney (肾皮质). It is distinct from 皮层, which is more general. Outside of medicine, 皮质 can also refer to 'skin quality' or 'leather texture', but the HSK 7 sense is primarily the anatomical one.
