Definition
监视 (jiān shì) means to monitor or keep a close watch, especially for security or law enforcement. Unlike 监督 (jiān dū, to supervise/oversee conduct) or 监测 (jiān cè, to continuously track technical data), 监视 emphasizes surveillance of people or areas. It is similar to 监控 (jiān kòng) but focuses more on watching than controlling.
