Definition
眷 is a bound form (b.f.) that appears in formal, written Chinese. It has two main senses: 'family member / dependent' (in compounds like 家眷 jiājuàn 'family dependents' and 眷属 juànshǔ 'family members') and 'to feel deep affection / attachment' (in words like 眷恋 juànliàn 'to be sentimentally attached to' and 眷顾 juàngù 'to care for / look after'). Because it's a bound morpheme, you cannot use 眷 by itself — it always combines with another character to form a word.
