Definition
瞳 (tóng) is a bound form — it cannot stand alone as a word. It always appears in compounds, most commonly 瞳孔 (tóngkǒng, 'pupil') or the literary variant 瞳仁 (tóngrén). When you see 瞳, it almost always belongs to one of these two-character words. The term is specific to the anatomy of the eye.
