知觉 (zhījué) is a noun for 'consciousness' (the state of being awake and aware) or 'perception' (the ability to sense). It differs from 意识 (yìshí), which is broader — 意识 can mean 'consciousness' as a mental state but also 'awareness' or 'realization' (often used as a verb with 到). 知觉 is more concrete and physiological, used for regaining or losing consciousness after injury, while 意识 is more abstract and psychological.
