Definition
称作 (chēng zuò) is a formal way to say 'to be called/known as', often used in written or official contexts. It is very similar to 叫作 (jiào zuò) and 称为 (chēng wéi), but 称作 is more common in formal writing and passive structures (e.g., 被称作). In everyday speech, the simpler 叫 (jiào) is preferred.
