Definition
简直 (jiǎn zhí) means 'simply' or 'really' and is used to exaggerate or strongly emphasize a point, often with 太…了, 就是, or 像…一样 (e.g., 'simply gorgeous'). Unlike 根本 (gēn běn), which often goes before negatives to mean 'absolutely (not)', and 干脆 (gān cuì), which suggests 'might as well' for taking a straightforward action, 简直 adds a hyperbolic tone to a statement.
