Definition
简陋 (jiǎn lòu) describes a place, facility, or living condition that is simple and crude, often with a sense of being shabby or poorly equipped. Unlike 粗鲁 (cū lǔ, rude in manner) which applies to people's behavior, 粗糙 (cū cāo, rough texture or workmanship) which focuses on surface or craftsmanship, and 拙劣 (zhuō liè, clumsy or botched) which judges skill or result, 简陋 is about material simplicity and lack of comfort or decoration.
