Definition
繁体字 (fántǐzì) refers to traditional Chinese characters, the older, more complex forms used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Its direct counterpart is 简体字 (jiǎntǐzì), the simplified forms used in mainland China and Singapore. The two are not synonyms but opposite writing systems.
