Definition
红线 has two distinct senses. The first refers to the red thread of fate from Chinese folklore: an invisible red string tied around the ankles of people destined to be soulmates. The second is a metaphorical 'red line' — a bottom line or limit that cannot be crossed, used in politics, law, and business. The literal sense of a red line drawn on a surface also exists but is less common.
