Definition
约定 (yuēdìng) means 'to agree on (a plan, arrangement, etc.) after discussion' between two or more parties. Unlike the single-character 约 (yuē), which is more casual and often used for arranging meetings, 约定 emphasizes a mutual pact or settled decision. It differs from 规定 (guīdìng), which is a rule set by an authority, and from 承诺 (chéngnuò), a one-sided promise.
