结为 (input pinyin erroneously given as jiē; standard pronunciation is jié wéi) is a formal verb pattern meaning "to enter into" or "to become" a specific relationship — it always pairs with a relationship noun like 夫妻 (married couple), 朋友 (friends), or 伙伴 (partners).
