Definition
结交 means 'to make friends with' or 'to befriend,' but it carries a more deliberate and often strategic tone than the everyday phrase 交朋友 (jiāo péngyou). You use 结交 when actively establishing a social connection, especially in professional, organizational, or networking contexts. It can be used transitively (结交 someone) or intransitively (结交朋友).
