Definition
缰 (jiāng) is a bound form (不成词语素) that always appears as part of a compound word, most commonly 缰绳 (jiāngshéng, 'reins'). It cannot stand alone as an independent word — you must pair it with 绳 or in fixed expressions like 脱缰 (tuōjiāng, 'to break free from the reins'). Think of it as the component that carries the 'reins/halter' meaning, similar to how 'bridle' is used in English compounds but rarely alone.
