Definition
网 (wǎng) is a versatile word meaning 'net' — a physical net (渔网), a network (铁路网), and also a verb 'to net' (网鱼). Contrast with 网络 (wǎngluò, HSK5), which is the more formal compound noun for 'network' in technical or abstract systems (e.g. Internet, neural network). 网 is shorter and broader, while 网络 is the standard term for networks as systems.
