Definition
署 is a bound form (b.f.) — it cannot stand alone as a word but appears in compounds. It has two main sense groups: (1) a government office or administrative agency (e.g., 部署 'to deploy', 署长 'head of an office'), and (2) to sign one's name or to arrange/deputize (e.g., 署名 'to sign', 签署 'to sign'). When you see 署 in a compound, the context tells you which sense is active.
