Definition
耽误 means to delay or hold up, with the implication that the delay causes a problem or wastes time. Unlike 拖延 (tuō yán), which suggests intentional procrastination, 耽误 can be accidental. It is more serious than 耽搁 (dān ge) (a neutral stopover) and more everyday than 延误 (yán wù) (formal, for schedules or missed opportunities).
