胖 (pàng) is the everyday word meaning 'fat' or 'overweight' for a person’s body. It can sound blunt or negative. For animals or meat, use 肥 (féi), not 胖. For a polite or positive way to say plump, use 丰满 (fēngmǎn); for the clinical term 'obese', use 肥胖 (féipàng).
