Definition
This chengyu (four-character idiom) literally means 'to throw stones at someone who has fallen into a well', but in everyday use, it refers to attacking or criticizing someone who is already in a difficult situation — the equivalent of 'kicking someone when they're down'. It's a negative idiom, used to call out someone's lack of compassion.
