Definition
蝇 is a bound morpheme (b.f.) meaning 'fly' (the insect). It never appears alone in modern Mandarin but only as part of compounds such as 苍蝇 (cāngying, 'fly') and 蝇子 (yíngzi, 'fly'). When you need to refer to the insect, use the full word 苍蝇 or 蝇子 rather than just 蝇.
