角色 (juésè) means a role or character in a play, film, novel, or game — the part someone performs in a fictional or staged setting. Unlike 身份 (shēnfèn 'social identity') or 职能 (zhínéng 'function of a position'), 角色 is about the part you play in a story or performance.
